Friday travel and movement update

This week, filming causes road closures in the Huskisson Street area, latest update on the Commercial District works, tunnel closures, and a reminder about the Northern Line suspension.

Huskisson Street Area

Due to filming Huskisson Street (Hope Street to Falkner Square), Sandon Street (Canning Street to Upper Parliament Street), Falkner Square (southeast side from its junction with Huskission Street to Grove Street and Canning Street to Sandon Street), Bedford Street South (Canning Street to Upper Parliament Street), Percy Street (from Canning Street for its entire length), Little Huskission Street (entire length), and Back Sandon Street (entire length) will be closed to all vehicles (except emergency vehicles) from 06:00 19th August up to 11:59pm on 21st August 2010.

The alternative route for vehicular traffic will be via: - Canning Street, Grove Street and vice versa.  The roads will be open for pedestrians and essential access will be maintained for residents where possible.

Commercial District

On Dale Street work is continuing between Vernon Street and Churchill Way Flyover.

Hockenhall Alley and Cheapside are now reopened to traffic after successful works were completed at their junctions with Dale Street. Work on this section of the footpath will conclude in the next fortnight and then transfer to the opposite side of the road outside the Municipal Buildings.

The slip road from Hatton Garden onto Dale Street is temporarily closed to allow the safe construction of the kerbs and footpaths. This closure will be carefully monitored and consultation will begin to possibly make it permanent.

In order to minimise disruption to transport movement between Crosshall Street and Stanley Street, Dale Street may be reduced to one lane at weekends. This will only be undertaken when absolutely necessary for safety reasons.

Works on the southern footpath at the Town Hall end of the street, between Castle Street and North John Street, have started on site having been reprogrammed reconstruction works to proceed ahead of schedule. This has a minimal impact on traffic as the carriageway is wide enough for through traffic and will also help to speed completion of the works.

Kingsway Tunnel

Kingsway Tunnel North Tube will be closed for essential maintenance – road deck repairs.  The North Tube will close at 19:00 on Friday 13th August and reopen at 06:30 on Monday 16th August 2010, meaning the North Tube will be closed for the duration of Saturday 14th August and Sunday 15th August.

Merseyrail

It may be useful to note that there is a rail replacement bus service in operation on the Northern Line between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central from Saturday, 24th July to Friday, 27th August, 2010. For more details, please visit the Merseytravel website at www.merseytravel.gov.uk
