When: Thu 20th Mar - 17.30-19.30
Where: Museum of Liverpool, Pier Head, Liverpool UK
Many residents of the City Centre and Waterfront will have a keen interest in the history of the railways. Most of us were brought up to know that Stephenson’s Rocket won the Rainhill Trials in 1829 for the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1830. However steam locomotives had already proved their worth when in 1825 the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened and that is 200 year ago in September this year.
You are invited to a meeting to discuss how best we can celebrate this event in our area. It will also be an opportunity to start thinking about our own anniversary in 2030 of the opening of the railway between Liverpool and Manchester. This event is being held in the Museum of Liverpool (which holds The Lion locomotive built in 1838 for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway).
WORDS FROM THE ORGANISERS:
We are excited to invite you to the next network session. Your ideas and insights have been invaluable to us as we continue to plan for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the world’s first inter-city railway between Liverpool & Manchester. We deeply appreciate your contributions and are eager to share how your suggestions are shaping the project.
During this session, we will:
- Provide an update on progress to date including the new brand
- Introduce the new Community Development Officer
- Hear from the Railway 200 team and she how you can get involved
- Listen to any other network members plans and ideas
- Get your feedback on exploring any new opportunities or collaborations
- Look at next steps
The purpose of network meetings is to foster open communication, build meaningful relationships, and create opportunities for collaboration among organisations, individuals, and community members, ensuring the initiative is engaging, inclusive, and impactful.
Your ongoing participation is crucial to the success of the project. This group will continue to meet throughout the development phase of the project, ensuring that your voice remains an integral part of the planning process. Network meetings will take place approximately every six months.
We look forward to seeing you there and continuing this exciting journey together. Please share the meeting with anyone you think may be interested in coming along. Thank you.
