We are excited to invite all city centre and waterfront residents to a very special event run by our friend at the New Citizenship Project, Jon Alexander, who has recently published his first book entitled CITIZENS.

Jon will be leading a workshop on the theme of his book, during which we will all work together to develop our 2022 Engage Seminar Series on the theme of citizenship and how like many around the world we can take responsibility for creating the kind of city we’d all like to live in.

Why is Engage running this?

We want to start the process now of preparing a significant seminar series for the autumn in Liverpool that will build upon the reputation Engage has developed for delivering thought-provoking and challenging seminars on a variety themes around city-living.

This time we are concerned about the impact recent events have had on people’s ability to engage with the city in any meaningful way. We will explore what other cities are doing to grow citizen democracy and to make sure people have a real say in the decisions that affect their lives. Representation is one aspect that we can look at and methods of citizen engagement will be shared from international as well as national perspectives.

But most of all we’d like to bring together a significant group of people who are as concerned about these issues as we are. That means we’d like to seek out and connect with those individuals and organisations who are already working to improve the quality of life for all people in the city. We aspire to re-invigorate the connections and network of relationships that people have so that in cooperation and co-creation we might discover a new level of enthusiasm for working together to improve the city.
