Engage has been exploring for a number of years now how we can be better citizens and what our role is in protecting and supporting citizen democracy.
One of our guides and inspirational speakers on this subject is Jon Alexander, Founder of New Citizenship Project. Since coming to Liverpool for the first time in 2016 to speak at our Seminar Series Reclaiming the City Jon has been a close friend as he has travelled the world meeting people from a wide variety of countries and organisations who are working away to deliver better political representation and better systems for making democratic decisions.
Jon came back and spoke at a further Seminar in 2022 entitled Making Liverpool Better, Together. Earlier on the same year Jon had come to Liverpool to launch his ground-breaking book Citizens in the March and this inspired more people to want to get involved in emerging movements that are realising that democracy as we know it is being undermined around the world and we need to get involved in saving democracy.
We would like to invite you to listen to an amazing podcast hosted by Jon Alexander and focused on the Irish Citizen’s Assembly which has transformed politics in Ireland and brought people together in a way that nothing else has. It lasts just over an hour but is well worth dedicating some time to learning more about this extraordinary way of enabling diverse citizens to become informed and make recommendations to governments both national and local about how to solve some of the seemingly intractable and divisive problems that can easily divide populations.
Be prepared to be inspired! Be ready to think outside the box!
