Some of the best images ever taken beneath the streets of  Edge Hill inside the Williamson Tunnels have appeared on the BBC Future website in an article entitled The Lost Tunnels Buried Deep Beneath the UK. The credit for these wonderful images goes to photographer Chris Iles and they are so atmospheric. He has captured some of the wonder and amazement that overwhelms visitors to the tunnels.

Those images are the property of the Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels whose website can be accessed HERE and the BBC Future page HERE.

There is also the Joseph Williamson Society which operates the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre which offers guided tours of parts of the underground complex.

If you live in the city centre or waterfront and haven’t yet been down to see these amazing caverns then you’re really missing out. Well worth a visit any time of the year.
