For more than 15 years, Engage Liverpool and its predecessor organisations have worked to represent the interests of residents living in Liverpool city centre and along the waterfront.

Together, we have helped ensure residents have a voice in conversations about development, neighbourhood issues, public services and the future of our city centre. We have built relationships, challenged where necessary, collaborated where possible, and created a stronger collective voice for those who call the city centre home.

Now, Engage Liverpool is at an important crossroads.

Like many volunteer-led organisations, we are facing the reality that several of our long-serving volunteers and Directors have given years of commitment and are increasingly balancing health considerations, family responsibilities and other commitments. Following Chair Gerry Proctor’s recent health scare and ongoing recovery, the Board has agreed that it is time to have an honest conversation about what comes next.

The current model is unlikely to be sustainable without new people, new ideas and renewed support. While winding up the organisation is one option that must be considered, no decisions have been made.

Before any decisions are taken, we want to hear from the people who matter most – residents.

Do city centre residents still need an independent voice?

What issues matter most today?

What role should Engage Liverpool play in the future?

Are there new ways of working, new partnerships or new people who could help take the organisation forward?

To explore these questions, we are inviting residents, supporters, former members and anyone interested in the future of city centre living to join us for an open community meeting.

This is not a formal AGM. It is a conversation about the future. We want to reflect on what Engage has achieved, understand what residents want next, and determine together whether there is a future role for the organisation.

If you have ever attended a meeting, supported a campaign, benefited from Engage’s work, or simply care about the future of Liverpool city centre, we would love to hear your views.

The next chapter of Engage Liverpool should be shaped by the people it exists to serve.

We want to hear from you about how important or not Engage has been. This is an opportunity to tell our story and see if what has been done in the past still has a place in the future. This event will be the equivalent of an Annual General Meeting without the formalities! We want the decision the gathering might arrive at to be democratically taken. Engage has prided itself on being democratic, transparent and accountable.
