Engage is preparing our 2022 seminars series entitled ‘Making Liverpool Better, Together’ and the dates have just been finalised this week and are three Thursdays over a 6 week period starting on Thursday 13th October, then 27th October and finally 10th November. We want to share good practice around improving democracy and democratic institutions  and Kirklees Council is a leader in this area.

The structure of the series is becoming clearer with an International Perspective led by Dr Camila Vergara followed by a National Perspective led by Jon Alexander the founder of New Citizenship Project and author of Citizens and finishing with a Local Workshop for people right across the city – facilitation to be confirmed.

Between now and the start of the seminars we want to promote some of the great examples of citizen engagement and active citizenship from around the world. One we especially like is the work being promoted by Kirklees and inspired by Jon Alexander. They started a ‘Shaped by People – Our Stories Our Places’ process which is amazing and inspirational.

You can read much more about their work here at the Kirklees Democracy Commission .

There is a great article on the Democratic Society website here about Shaped by People – making active citizenship a shared strategic priority in Kirklees

We will keep adding more information as time passes and we would encourage any Liverpool examples to get in touch so we can showcase what is already happening in our city (email: chair@engageliverpool.com)
