The Engage 2015 Seminar Series was entitled Liveable Liverpool and dealt with the design, build and management of apartment blocks. For the third year running there was an International, National and Local perspective to the series but during the 2015 series each perspective is present in each seminar.
Prominent architects from three European cities, Rotterdam, Paris and Vienna presented their ideas about how apartments are designed and managed in their countries. Then an insight from the UK was delivered by three national organisations, the Centre for Cities, Royal Town Planning Institute and Royal Institute of British Architects. A local panel consisting of an architect, a planner and a representative from three housing associations added a Liverpool dimension to each seminar.
Engage has tried to involve developers in the series but it has proved difficult if not impossible to get them to appear on a panel or indeed to attend the series. Despite that lack this series proved to be the most significant event ever in the city to debate and reflect upon the kind of apartments we need in Liverpool if City Centre living is to become sustainable.
